I can’t go out, *cough* I’m sick 😷
After four years of successfully escaping it, COVID finally got me. Getting sick is the worst, but getting sick as a vocalist who uses their voice to make a living is extra scary! Actually it’s my own personal nightmare, adding to the stress of “when will my voice recover” is that when you are self employed, you don’t get paid sick days. It’s been about two weeks of an on and off fever, exhaustion, and being a congested mess. I’ve only been able to leave my bed and feel “okay” for the past 48 hours. Let’s just say the overwhelming anxiety of all the projects I need to finish is well, overwhelming! Even though I no longer have a fever and I’m certainly on the mend, my voice says otherwise. I sound stuffy and I have a wicked cough. Hopefully I’ll be back to sounding like my normal self soon so I can get back to recording, as I’ve got some really exciting collabs and solo songs that I cannot wait to finish.
SHOW *US* THE MONEY
BREAKING NEWS! After a long and arduous battle with Digital music companies like Spotify, Apple, Amazon and Google have finally turned over the money we were underpaid while they appealed the last CRB ruling. In case you missed it, the Copyright Royalty Board ruling centered on an increase in the overall percentage of streaming services’ in the United States. The CRB moved the percentage figure up from 10.5% to 15.1% across the five years between 2018 and 2022. The streaming services tried to appeal this ruling and failed. Songwriters and Publishers are due nearly $419.2 million plus another $10-15 million to come. This is an epic win for songwriters and music publishers! If you would like to follow this story more closely I highly recommend following David Israelite, who has been tirelessly fighting for this royalty increase since the Music Modernization Act passed in 2018.
The Way You Dance
It’s been one month since TWYD has come out and we’ve just surpassed 200,000 streams on Spotify! I’m so grateful and want to thank everyone who’s streamed the song and added it to a playlist! After not releasing music for over a year this has been such a warm welcome back and I appreciate the support so much!
I have some really exciting news that I’m going to be announcing via substack first to paid subscribers ONLY next week so if you haven’t already, please consider subscribing!
Have a wonderful week!
XOXO
