Kaskade DJ’s the Super Bowl + Beyoncé goes Country + my hair colorist era
Look Mom, we’ve made it to mainstream!
Kaskade became the first in game DJ at the Super Bowl! Really an incredible moment for EDM to be apart of such a mainstream event. It does make me ask the bigger question: “Why is EDM still treated like it’s not main stream by the Music Industry?” The Grammy’s still don’t televise the EDM category, even though so many of today’s top hits and biggest streamed songs are EDM. But let’s focus on the positive, Kaskade DJ-ing to millions of viewers for the Super Bowl is a massive win for the community and I am here for it!
COMMERCIALS
Every year I look forward to the Super Bowl commercials and this year did not disappoint. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Tom Brady, Jennifer Lopez, Jack Harlow and Dunkin Donuts stole the show. The award for weirdest commercial goes to Kanye West who appeared to be riding through a fast food drive thru recording an ad for Yeezy on his phone with his new titanium dentures. Quick note on Kanye’s new smile, has anyone else noticed he now speaks with a lisp due to the dentures? I am so distracted every time he speaks because as someone who expresses himself artistically through rapping, why would you choose to let fashion rule over function. Unfortunately, titanium dentures are the least problematic thing Kanye has been up to lately as he’s caused yet another controversy for sampling Ozzy Osbourne’s song “War Pigs” without permission and doubling down on his antisemitic rhetoric.
Beyoncé goes Country
When Beyoncé showed up to the Grammys in a cowgirl hat we should’ve known that was a hint as to what she was dropping next. I am so pumped for Beyoncé to go country. Let’s not forget she is a Texas native so I fully expect her to absolutely dominate country music with her next album. With songs like “old town road” by lil Nas, the rise of Jelly Roll, rapper turned country star, and my all time favorite country moment as of late, Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” having the ultimate resurgence being covered by Luke Combs and becoming a smash hit, Beyoncé coming to claim her Country Crown is going to be such a fun era of music. There is a lot of industry chatter that Lana Del Rey with the announcement of her forthcoming country album “Lasso”, and Beyoncé’s new Country Album that these two talented Diva’s will be battling it out for album of the year next year. The genre lines have already blurred when it comes to country and pop music and I am here for it!
My Colorist Era
If you’re a grey girly not ready who has to run to the salon every 4-6 weeks to touch up your roots, you already know how inconvenient and costly it can be to keep up with the maintenance. In a bold move, I decided to color my roots myself and I really liked the results! If you want to see the process, check out my TikTok but be warned, I am NOT a professional!!! I highly recommend consulting with your colorist before you attempt to dye your hair at home.
